I have 2 Jaguar Cichlids that I keep with 2 Jack Dempsey Cichlids and a Pleco. They are in a 150 gallon tank. I had them all since they were about an inch and a half and the JD's are now about 4 while the Jag's are about 6-7 inches. While the Jag's do rule the tank, they do not try to kill the JD's. I believe if you keep them from a young age with other Cichlids of similar temperment, then you should be able get them to coexist with each other. Although, this is just my experience and other fish may have different temperments than my Jag's.

The photo in this article is of a cichlasoma uophthalmus, the false red terror or mayan cichlid. Not to also be confused with the red terror, amphilophus festae.
